Cincinnati s Cashmere Wright searched for one last opening, a victory over No. 3 Syracuse within his grasp. But when his long shot from straight on with 2.9 seconds left bounced off the rim yesterday, the Orange escaped with a 57-55 victory over the visiting No. 21 Bearcats. I love his confidence, but I would rather have thrown the ball in the high post in that scenario, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said. It looked great, added Sean Kilpatrick, who led Cincinnati with 21 points. It just rolled right in and out. We needed him to take the shots he took. Great shooters aren t going to always make every shot. C.J. Fair was credited with the tipped, go-ahead basket with 19.4 seconds left as the Orange rallied from seven points down with just over five minutes to play. Syracuse had tied it at 55 on Michael Carter-Williams three-pointer from the top of the key with 1:20 left, and Fair s tip came after Jerami Grant drove the lane and missed against 6-foot-10 Cheikh Mbodj. They got a tip-in that we didn t expect them to get, said Kilpatrick, who made 6 of 15 three-pointers. That s what s going t {keyword} o happen when two teams are competing like that at such a high level a {keyword} nd everyone is going after the same rebound. We all hit it at the same time, and it just rolled right in. The Orange (18-1, 6-0 Big East) outscored the Bearcats (16-4, 4-3) 13-4 in the final minutes as Fair and Brandon Triche each finished with 13 points. JaQuon Parker had 11 points and six rebounds for Cincinnati, which outrebounded Syracuse 38-18, 16-7 on the offensive glass.Wright, who suffered a sprained right knee Tuesday against DePaul and did not play in Cincinnati s overtime victory against Marquette on Saturday, finished with five points on 2-of-13 shooting. He was 1 of 8 on threes. Men s highlightsGeorgetown 63, No. 24 Notre Dame 47 Otto Porter scored 19 points for Georgetown (13-4, 3-3 Big East), which handed Notre Dame is third loss in four games. The host Irish (15-4, 3-3) recorded season lows in points scored, field- goal percentage (35 percent) and assists (11).Wright State 64, Detroit 62 Kendall Griffin scored 15 points, and Wright State (14-5, 5-1 Horizon), which never trailed, withstood a late rally by host Det {keyword} roit (12-8, 4-3).Women s highlightNo. 8 Penn State 59, No. 23 Michigan 49 Maggie Lucas scored 19 points and Alex Bentley 16 for Penn State (15-2, 5-0), which took over sole possession of first place in the Big Ten. Rachel Sheffer had 20 points and 10 rebounds for host Michigan (15-3, 4-1), which saw a10-game winning streak end. The Wolverines made 6 of 26 three-pointers.

Honduras regresa a PETROCARIBE y vuelve a recibir petróleo venezolano

Posted by Ben Kercheval on January 14, 2013, 12:41 PM EST Getty ImagesCoach Brian Kelly is for at least another year. Running back is not.Wood s mother and stepfather that the Notre Dame running back would forego his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft. ESPN s Joe Schad reported that Wood was going to declare earlier this morning. The move shouldn t be all that surprising. Wood s mother told the Tribune in November that he was about 70-30 leaning toward leaving. I just know that him and his mother discussed it, and it s something he was ready for, and she said she was going to back him up on any decision he made, Wood s stepfather told the paper.Notre Dame is expected to release a statement on Wood s decision shortly. The redshirt junior would finish his career with 2,447 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was the team s second-leading rusher this season with 742 yards, but had just two in a BCS championship loss to Alabama. Wood was of the 2012 season for violating team rules. For more on what Wood s departure means for the Irish, check out Keith Arnold s blog at .Updated 2:45 p.m. ET: As expected, Wood released a statement through the university this afternoon confirming his intentions to declare for the draft. He will exit the program a {keyword} s its seventh-leading rusher of all time.“Having to make a decision like whether to stay in school or leave to pursue a lifelong dream of playing in the NFL is never simple,” Wood said. “I had to weigh many factors over the last month, but ultimately it came down to what I felt was the right decision that would most benefit my family. With that in mind, I’m leaving Notre Dame and am entering my name for this year’s NFL Draft.“There are so many people I need to thank that have helped get me to this point. My teammates are friends I know I’ll have the rest of my life. I’ll miss hanging out with them in the loc {keyword} and I’m happy to know he’ll remain our head coach in the future. Coach Alford has been so much more than a coach to me. He’s been a mentor and a role model. He’s helped turn me into the man I am today.“Lastly, I want to thank the school, our fans and the extended Notre Dame family. The love and appreciation you’ve shown me in my four years can never be repaid. I’ll always remember the ovation I received as I ran out of the tunnel on senior day and I can’t thank you enough.”Brian Kelly also stated:“Cierre has been an important member of our football team in my three years at Notre Dame and I appreciate all he did to help get our program back on top. I wish him well in the future and hope he has a successful playing career at the next level.”Share this:
